Dine with Neil Tovey and Thanda Royal Zulu FC

General Manager Of Thanda Royal Zulu Football Club

CANSA fundraiser needs your support

November sees a focus on men’s cancer and this issue will be spotlighted at a special soccer dinner to be held at the Umfolozi Casino Resort on Friday 11 November.

Taking centre stage will be the KZN soccer giants Amazulu FC and Thanda Royal Zulu FC, who will be fighting for supremacy the next day in the ‘Battle of the Zulus’ at the uMhlathuze Stadium.

CANSA Zululand is hosting the dinner where guests will have the opportunity to rub shoulders with soccer stars such as Bafana’s most successful captain, Neil Tovey. The man who led the country to victory in the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations has agreed to become the Men’s Ambassador for CANSA Zululand, saying that sport has a direct link with health and lifestyle. “I enjoy speaking on company employee days and at year-end or special functions, as sport is a great way to connect with people and motivate them. It’s easy to move from the known; sport; to the unknown…team work, leadership, safety etc.” said Tovey. “In this case, fighting cancer also requires team work on education, treatment, funds raising, support and so on”.

Tovey went on to say that cancer is not gender discriminate, so while we generally think in terms of women and breast cancer, we realise that men also become victims. We want to encourage men to be proactive, through self-examination and annual blood tests, to detect testicular or prostate cancer at early stages when there is a virtual 100 percent treatment and recovery rate.

TWhile Friday night’s dinner party will provide a platform for such issues, it will also be a lot of fun as the soccer legends of both teams share ‘war stories’.

Umfolozi Casino Resort has kindly provided accommodation for the visiting Amazulu team, who will bring with them autographed soccer jerseys to go on auction along with those of the Amabhubesi.

Cost per person is a R250.00 donation and tables or places can be booked by calling the CANSA Zululand offices on 035 772 5677.
