Amabhubesi Are Roaring

Thanda Loses To Amazulu

Thanda Royal Zulu continued their good run, downing FC Cape Town 2-0 at Richards Bay Sports Complex on Sunday to stay second on the NFD log at the weekend.

After 14 matches, Amabhubesi are tied on 30 points with log leaders University of Pretoria, who enjoy superior goal difference.  The Pretoria side beat struggling Atlie FC 2-1 in Gauteng.

Thanda defender Ommar Hendricks opened the scoring in the 38th minutes with a brilliant free kick and forward Peter Wadabwa sealed the match in injury time for Neil Tovey’s men. It was an impressive performance by Thanda, who did not show signs of inactivity due to a two week break enforced by Olympic qualifiers.

Thanda had goalkeeper Nhlanhla ‘Cassilas’ Khuzwayo in the SA U/23 team that failed to book a place at next year’s games in London. The win will serve as a morale booster for Thanda, who visit Blackburn Rovers in the preliminary Nedbank Cup fixture on Wednesday night in East London. However, Tovey will be without Khuzwayo, defender Isaac Nhlapho and Mpho Sitayitayi who received yellow cards.
